Abstract

The XYZ landfill is located in Batam with a land area of ​​46.8 Ha, an average of 700-800 tons of waste enters the XYZ landfill per day, with the volume of waste that has piled up and contains methane gas, it is possible that a fire disaster will occur. The reason for this study was to dissect the potential risk of fire and apply how to overcome it. The fire that occurred at the XYZ landfill was not something that could be taken lightly considering that the main pile of waste was also burned, because not only the top of the pile of waste burned, but the top also burned in the pile of waste containing methane gas. Therefore, it is important to make efforts to prevent the risk of fire, one of which can be done through risk analysis. One strategy that can be used is the HIRARC technique. After implementing risk control, there is a decrease in the risk level from the initial risk assessment, namely the risk value before the control was carried out which was classified as extreme risk by 14% down to 0%, high risk by 14% down to 0%, medium risk by 55% down to 14% and low risk by 17% up to 86%, meaning that the risk control carried out is effective in reducing the potential hazards resulting from each work activity in waste management at TPA xyz. TPA xyz needs to consider the results of risk control using the HIRARC method.
